The SIP Creed

I am a Sister in Progress destined for Greatness
With my God at the helm, my Sisters at my side
And my Mothers always here to guide
The lessons I learn will lead me down the right path
The roads will be bumpy but I will keep the faith of a mustard seed
I will not be tricked by allowing what looks easy to take heed
I will remain vigilant in my journey to become
A Confident Sister, a Respected Sister, a Culturally Diverse Sister,
A Well-Read Sister, a Giving Sister, a Humble Sister, an Eloquent Sister
And a Keeper of my Sisters
I will not be nor will I allow you to be defined by anger, envy or conceit
I am you and you are I-we are equal in God’s eyes
I am a Sister in Progress and I am part of a sisterhood bonded by our aspirations
Willing to learn, ready to teach, able to give and eager to grow into a positive,
successful role model
I will apply my learned knowledge for the betterment of my Sisters
who stand with me and who follow me, for I am my Sister’s keeper…

SIP MISSION

Purpose
To provide succinct and continuous tools for young girls that will increase their marketability and competitive spirit as they progress from adolescence to womanhood.  It is our intent to develop healthy, confident, cognizant, and productive young ladies, and future professionals and entrepreneurs.

Focal Points

The focus, like many other programs, is geared toward growing adolescents.  It is our intent to introduce, reinforce and educate adolescent girls on the tools and skills they need to prepare themselves for high school, college and beyond.  With the media, music and absence of internet censorship, it is imperative to feed our girls positive messages, give them positive images, engage them in alternative activities and expose them to different cultures so that they can make choices which are deliberately and intentionally chosen towards success.  With the present economy, many are forced to cut back on extracurricular activities and spend increasing hours working to make ends meet.  It is up to us to step up and step in to help our children in our communities by lending our talents to educate and support change and growth; and encourage them to have aspirations beyond what the media offers. Children listen to, engage in and learn from us; so through discipline-the nurturing kind that instills belief, self-actualization, and confidence we can guide the future of our children. While at times they may seem uninterested and may feel overwhelmed by how much there is to learn, they can -one SIP at a time.  SIP allows young girls to explore life through reading, travel, workshops, and real life activities.  The entities within SIP are:

SIP’s Mother and Daughter Reading Club
- designed for mothers and daughters to spend quality time doing something of substance and to learn more and understand more about each other.  Reading novels about kids their own age from different cultures creates awareness of how kids all over the world live.

SIP Travel is designed to allow students to experience other cultures through oversees travel; take local tours of historical significance, attend workshops, plays, and go on college tours.  Our vision is to acquire private mini-bus that will significantly increase participation by removing the inability of some parents to transport their adolescents.

SIP Entrepreneurs
is designed to expose the participants to technical fields/non-traditional areas of expertise that may spark an interest in pursuing business ownership.

SIP Community
will participate in volunteering in the community which builds appreciation and humility. Beginning early in community service will give them experience in potential areas of interest; including mandatory credit for high school. Choosing an organization (s), to align SIP with, gives the participants a sense of pride and belonging outside of them.
